Winter months always wreak havoc on your skin, don’t they? The cold and hot changes as we enter indoors and outdoors are a terrible drag on our biggest organ, the skin. It often responds by drying out, cracking and turning red. But, what are we to do? We can moisturize until the sun comes up, but that’s actually only a very partial solution. The best way to keep skin healthy during these cold snaps is to exfoliate your skin by removing all the dead skin on your epidermis’ surface, and once you remove those layers of dryness, should you try to moisturize your skin. If you follow this advice, you should be able to keep a very healthy glow throughout this dry skin period.
Here is a recipe you can try at home to exfoliate yourself:
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup sunflower seed oil
1 large avocado, mashed
2 tsps. lemon juice
1/2 tsp. honey
1/4 cup ground pomegranite seeds
1 tsp. lavender essential oil
Mix the brown sugar and the pomegranite seeds together until they are well blended. Slowly blend in sunflower seed oil until it makes a nice paste. Then, include the avocado where you should see the paste become more thick. At this point, you can stir in the lemon juice, the honey and essential oil. Take this paste with you to the shower, and use it to scrub your body in mini circular motions towards your heart. Et voilà! You should have a glowing skin once you shower off the dead skin cells. Don’t forget to use a good cream-based moisturizer to finish off your look! We recommend Académie’s powder cream which retails for about $60.00 in select spas.
